General Guidelines- Please make sure that sharing for your portfolio is ON! If we cannot view your portfolio, you may not be considered for the zine.- Page Artists will be allotted 2 pages per assignment. If you would like to work on a comic, you will be allowed up to 4 pages. Page Artists may be assigned a specific pokemon, pokemon line, or character based on the preferences that they list on their application.- Cover Artists will be tasked with illustrating the Zine's cover, whether just front, or front and back. Cover artists will also have the choice to contribute with a page illustration as well as Covers Artists may be given a specific assignment.- Merch Artists will be assigned specific pieces of merch based on the preferences that they list on their application.- Writers will be tasked with writing up to 4000 words with no lower limit. Writers must have their pieces beta read by the Writing Mod or other Contributors, fully edited, etc by the final check in. Writers may be assigned a specific pokemon, pokemon line, or character based on the preferences that they list on their application.- Once a Zine is complete, all Contributors retain 100% copyright to their art and may post, reproduce, and sell said art in any way they see fit.- "Fully Finished" accounts for multiple variations of many art styles. We do not expect everyone to be at exactly the same art level or use the same style. Variety is the spice of life and we would love to show case a range of styles and skill levels!- Please do not include NSFW pieces in your portfolio or link NSFW social media accounts. (Explicit or suggestive works, gore, body horror, etc.
We recommend curating your portfolio to fit a specific pitch or role- If you are interested in illustration, show pieces that have fully finished backgrounds, characters, etc.- If you are interested in comics, show examples of comics you've drawn.- If you are interested in physical merch, show examples of merch, whether mockups or physical merch you've produced.- If interested in digital merch, depending on what you would like to produce, show examples of illustrations, emotes, icons, music, 3d models, etc.- If you have a variety of art styles that you use, we also recommend showing multiple examples of the style you would like to use for the zine! This gives us some consistency while also showing the range of your work!
Page and Merch Artist Portfolio Requirements- At least one sample that is less than 1 year old.- At least two pieces of pokemon, animal, furry or monster art are not required but HIGHLY recommended.- At least three fully finished pieces that you consider your best work. (Full colour, background (if applicable), shading (if applicable) etc).- Traditional art is welcome as long as it is scanned in high quality.- Pixel art is welcome as long as it is viewable.- 3D art is welcome as long as it is viewable.- Textile arts (crotchet, plushes, etc) are welcome.
Writer Portfolio Requirements- At least three writing samples at least 500 words in length and no greater than 2000 words in length.- At least one recent writing sample that is less than 1 year old.- At least three writing samples that are no older then 2 years old.- At least one writing sample that contains pokemon, animals, monsters or pokemon characters is not required but HIGHLY recommended.
What size is the Zine going to be?The Zine will be 8.5 x 5.5 inches portrait.Is this Zine For Profit or For Charity?This Zine will be For Charity with profits going to benefit the Ocean Conservancy!How will contributors be compensated?The Zine is For Charity, so all contributors will be working on a volunteer basis. All contributors will receive a finished PDF version of the Zine and the Digital Merch, as well as a Free Physical Copy of the Zine and may also receive copies of the Merch if preorders and supplies allow.How many assignments will there be?We are still finalizing details on writers and merch, but our appx is between 40 - 50 assignments.Would original characters be a possibility for this Zine?Your own interpretations of canon characters are absolutely allowed, but due to copyright, no OCs will be allowed in the Zine at this timeAre all artists welcome to apply for this Zine and not just popular names with big followings?Anyone is welcome to apply to the Zine. We will be basing acceptance on your portfolios and that alone. You can view some general guidelines to help you build a better portfolio on our Guidelines page!Can you submit without Pokémon art experience?You can submit without pokemon art, however it is HIGHLY recommended that you do. People sometimes draw pokemon, animals, furries and humans very differently, so it's sometimes hard to say how a person would draw pokemon without any previous pokemon art.So we recommend having pokemon art in your portfolio, or the very least having animal, furry, or monster art in contrast to just humans.Will this Zine be available to purchase in the UK / Germany / Russia / Ukraine?Due to current world events, some countries may not be accepting packages from the United States. We hope to be able to offer sales to as many countries as possible!Will there potentially be stretch goals?There will indeed be stretch goals, but those will be revealed once preorders open!Do you support NFTs/Crypto?We have a firm stance that both are unacceptable both environmentally and socially. If you support either, we ask you not apply to our project.How do your assignments work? I don't want to work on a piece, pokemon, character, etc that I'll hate!No worries! We will never assign you a piece that you'll hate working on! We do assign specific pieces to contributors to speed up our process, but we work completely based on your own preferences!You'll see on our applications that we ask for characters you DO want to work on, and characters you DO NOT want to work on. We also take a look at your pitches, and at pokemon and characters you've listed as your absolute favourites, and try to assign you based on all of these things combined. We tailor all of our applications based on applicant preferences.Due to limited assignments, the popularity of some characters, and the need for a variety of characters in page art to make a successful zine, we cannot guarantee that you'll be assigned one of the characters on your DO want to work on list, and may instead be assigned a character in your MAYBE section instead. Which is why we ask that you fill out your DO and DO NOT sections as thoroughly as possible to avoid even getting a character in the MAYBE section as best we can!We want everyone to enjoy their experience! We will NEVER give you a character on your DO NOT want list.Why are you excluding the jynx evolution line from the zine?Due to concerns from our team, and on both the Interest Check and in DMs, we have decided not to include the jynx line in this zine as the Pokémon is racially insensitive.
